- AHEAD
- A 6-month, randomised, double-blind, parallel group asthma clinical trial by Bousquet and colleagues that compared the efficacy and safety of Symbicort SMART® with the highest approved maintenance dose of salmeterol/fluticasone (Seretide™) plus a short-acting β2-agonist.
- Airway hyperresponsiveness
- An exaggerated bronchoconstrictor response that occurs when inflamed airways become sensitive and react to stimuli that would could no response in a person without asthma.
- Airway remodelling
- A serious condition involving permanent structural changes in the airways that occurs when asthma is left uncontrolled or untreated. The airways are less likely to respond well to asthma medicine and asthma becomes harder to control.
- Anticholinergic
- A bronchodilator that opens the airways by relaxing the bronchial muscles, Anticholinergics also help to clear mucus away from the airways.
- Asthma
- A chronic inflammatory lung disease in which the bronchial tubes become reversibly narrowed and inflamed, making it difficult to move air into and out of the lungs. Symptoms include coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, and overproduction of mucus.
